Remember to Have Fun This Holiday Season
Feel so gaaahhhh! these days with all the usual holiday demands - the lack of tree at my house, family Christmas shopping, so much wonderful cool-as-all-get-out new stock coming into the store, the awesome holiday events (Promenade rocked!)... It can be overwhelming, so I sometimes have to remind myself to have fun.
And that's the thing. Most of the demands we put on ourselves this season are a result of what we think others expect of us, not a result of what others have told us they expect. Pinterest board ideas are not your job. If they were, then yes, you'd accomplish a bunch of those DIYs and probably get your home in Midwest Living, but...
Maybe it's easiest to write a list of actual expectations (a gift for your child under the tree, some food in the house on Christmas day, a fun traditional family activity, a neighborhood cocktail crawl) and work out from there. When you write the list, you see the things you want to accomplish within the framework of giving - doing what really needs to get done to make the holiday special for those you love. And like that, the holidays are fun again - sure, there's still a ton to get done, but now crying into a bottle of Baileys isn't one of them.
